Transition Year Programme (T.Y)
The Transition Year Programme is a unique one year programme for students who have completed the Junior Certificate. It promotes the personal, social, vocational and educational development of students and prepares them for their role as autonomous, participative and responsible members of society.
It provides a bridge to enable them to make the transition from the more dependent type of learning associated with the Junior Certificate to the more independent learning environment associated with the Senior cycle. It encourages personal and social development and recognises the need for students to grow in independence. It encourages the development of a wide range of transferable critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
The subjects and modules for the current year (2009-2010) are:
Gaeilge, English, Mathematics, Careers, Physical Education, German/ French, Business Studies, Science, Construction Studies, History, Home Economics, Art, Geography, Media Studies, Mini- Company, School Magazine & Road Safety.
All Transition Year students are on a Work Experience placement every Friday as part of their programme as well as participating in a 2- week Social Awareness placement in the second term.
